Knowledge Area

As I sat down to write about the topic for my blog I drew a blank.

The reason for this is that because usually as a business teacher I haven't run into any really awesome business games. I don't understand why they haven't been created but I guess people don't think that balancing a check book is as awesome as I think it is.

However thanks to Denise I was relieved to find out that I didn't have to totally concentrate my knowledge area to business. She told me that I could look at different areas other than just STEM which would be what my area would most likely to fall into. With that in mind I decided to write my blog on the knowledge area of social issues.

This may come as a surprise because it may not seem that business covers this issue but every facet of business is decided by social issues of that time. Lets take a look at the oil leak that has happened in the gulf. Not only has it been horrible for the environment but also has caused much concern over the effect of local business in that area.

As the video says it is affecting many small businesses that have been there for many years and that their whole life was defined by being able to go out and work on the water everyday. It is issues like this that make me more and more interested in social issues and events that are happening in our country. It is not just anymore about the straight idea of business but rather what affects different issues have on business not only on a national scale but also a local scale.

This is one of the many reasons why I feel that when I sit down to start designing a flash game that I will use the knowledge area of social issues. However I do suspect that I will try to tie in the area of STEM because that is what I have been teaching for the past two years and is what I know, but I am happy for the opportunity to step outside the box.
